About the ACEO Virtual 31st Leadership Conference

Humanity has seen pandemics and turmoil before. Businesses are used to risk – hardly anything after all stays the same in a globally interconnected, volatile world. However, we have not seen before, in living memory at least, a pandemic that brought the entire planet at a standstill.When no one knows when the proverbial return to normality will occur, the uncertainty expands. We live in a state of incertocracy (incerto: uncertainty in Latin). We sail without a map. We walk in terra incognita.
  • What are the exploration skills leaders need in order to lead the way through the uncertain and scary jungle of uncertainty?
  • How does leadership work in a world of contactless contacts?

  • The underlying question is: how can we build antifragile organizations that not only resist shocks but can benefit from them?
The inventor of the concept of “antifragility”, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, writes that “antifragility is beyond resilience or robustness. The resilient resists shocks and stays the same; the antifragile gets better”. The antifragile organization grows from volatility and disorder. When things break down, opportunities are created through the yawning chasm. The abnormal can be the trigger for a new order – for an organization to overcome its inertia and move to a new level; a chance to reinvent itself. During the conference, we will explore the terra incognita of our times and discuss how leadership creates antifragility.
